Sealing Wax

Dolores_park_cowl"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:
Of shoes and ships and sealing wax,
Of cabbages and kings.
And why the sea is boiling hot.
And whether pigs have wings."

-Lewis Carrol, Through the Looking Glass

Malabrigo_mittens_2

This little bit is the reason I walked out of my LYS with this Malabrigo yarn.  The colorway is `Sealing   Wax`, and between that poem and Mary Jane’s almost mittens, I couldn`t help but wander off with two skeins of this luscious stuff, to make a pair of mittens and a Dolores Park cowl.

The beauty of it is, the entire project took me only a few days, and now I have knitting to share!

I modified Parikha`s cowl pattern for worsted Malabrigo and a 5mm needle as follows:

Cast on 90 sts, pm and join for working in the round.

K5 rounds, P1 round, K16 rounds

Increase Round:  *K10, M1* around (99 sts)

K8 rounds

Increase Round: *K11, M1* around (108 sts)

K19 rounds, P1 round, K5 rounds

Bind off loosely

It`s not as bulky as the original, which is why I`ll be making another one with Malabrigo Chunky, but  it`s cozy!  And just in time for our trip through the mountains to Prince George, BC this weekend!  (If the snow stops falling and the roads are safe)

Hi! I came upon your blog through Ravelry. I love the mod you did on the Dolores Park Cowl--I'm going to start on your version tonight! I was also wondering if you wouldn't mind posting the pattern for your beautiful mittens. I have two skeins of Malabrigo that want to be made into something, and I think that cowl would love to have those as mates! Many thanks for your time!
